Workshop investigates ecosystem response to mining

In the framework of MIDAS workpackage 6 an initial meeting was organised at the Senckenberg Research institute (DZMB) in Wilhelmshaven from 11-13 March 2014 to discuss potential responses (i.e. resistance and recovery) of deep-sea ecosystems to mining activities. Participants included both scientists and industrial partners across 13 different institutes and 10 EU countries. Several talks were presented on different aspects of deep seabed natural and anthropogenic disturbance and evaluated how this information can be translated into assessment of environmental impacts of mining.
