Sustainable exploitation of marine resources in the Algarve
On 18 March the University of the Algarve hosted a seminar, promoted by maralgarve, for the general public and for stakeholders with interests on the regional development of socio-economic and scientific activities related to the sustainable exploitation of marine resources in the Algarve. This seminar served to present a new national law on the baseline regulations for the management of the maritime area, including the deep-sea, and which was recently approved by the Portuguese Parliament and will soon come into force. It was focused on the perspectives and opportunities that this may bring for the Southern Portuguese (Algarve) region. This seminar had the participation of a member of the national parliament, a member of the cabinet of the Deputy Minister of the Sea, researchers, regional industry CEOs, among others. A poster with the main objectives of the MIDAS project (in Portuguese, pictured right) was presented, as an outreach of the scientific research projects where the CIMA (University of the Algarve) is involved.
