MIDAS session at Goldschmidt 2014
A dedicated session on the 'Environmental impact of Future Deep Sea Mining', convened by MIDAS WP1 leader Jens Greinert (GEOMAR) and colleagues, will take place during the Goldschmidt 2014 conference in Sacramento, 8-13 June 2014. The session wil cover cover possible (bio)geochemical consequences of mining impacts in the deep-ocean environment, such as the release of toxic metals from sediment and fragmented ore, processes at the sediment–bottom water interface and in the water column, among others. Presentations on field, experimental, and theoretical/modeling studies as well as strategies for best practice monitoring and deposit compositions are welcome. For more details please visit the Goldschmidt 2014 conference website and navigate to Theme 13: Emerging Issues in Energy Resources. The deadline for abstract submission is 8 February 2014.
